Coaches

Peter Nathan has over 25 years experience coaching all levels of athletes and non-athletes. He holds a B.S. in Theoretical Linguistics from Georgetown University, an M.A. in Physical Education and Sport from New York University, and an M.Ed. in Applied Physiology from Columbia University.  In 2009 he moved to New Paltz, NY with his family from Little Silver, NJ where he ran a successful exercise studio for ten years.

He is a two-time CrossFit Games finalist in the Master's Division. He is a Level 2 CrossFit Coach and holds 10 CrossFit certifications, in addition to the following:

  • NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist
  • ACSM Exercise Specialist  
  • Starting Strength Coach

Peter Beuf has been a Crossfit enthusiast since December of 2009.  He is a Crossfit Level I, CrossFit Olympic Weightlifting Coach, and a Crossfit Kids’ Certified instructor.  Peter was a New York State Certified Latin teacher who taught Latin, U.S. History and English in both public and private Schools.  He currently writes and sits on the editorial board of the Gardiner Gazette.  He also renovates houses.  He is an avid outdoorsman who has taught rock climbing and in-line skating (IISA Certified Instructor/ Kids on Wheels coach).  He currently teaches an outdoor education course at the Mohonk Preserve in the summer (since 2008).  He attended the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in the Pacific Northwest (a month long outdoor educators course for teachers).  He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from Hunter College with a B.A. in Specials Honors and Latin and a minor in education.  Peter has an interest in working with older adults who have had joint replacements and he enjoys instructing kids.

Melinda Beuf joined the Crossfit community in November 2009.  Approaching her 50th birthday she was looking for an experience that was fun, included weight-bearing exercises, and would get her back into shape after a five year lapse from dedicated training.  She was immediately taken with the Crossfit ethos and by September of 2010 had earned her Level 1 Certification, and more recently, her Olympic Weight-lifting Cert. 

In college Melinda fenced and started lifting weights, she fell into the whole Nautilus thing when that craze exploded and briefly worked as a Nautilus trainer.  She has studied Akido and yoga.   Before her five year hiatus from training  Melinda worked for six years with personal trainers on weight-lifting, boxing, plyometrics, and cardio.  She cross country skis, snowshoes, inline skates, ice skates, climbs, and hikes.   An early injury forced her to stop running in her 20s but a chance run in the woods at the age of 40 turned her into a trail runner (albeit a slow one).

Melinda enjoys helping people do things they thought they could never do and believes that constantly varied, functional movement at high intensity is a prescription for aging gracefully, staying healthy, and maintaining sanity.

 In her non-Crossfit life, Melinda works as an economic developer and knits.  She has an undergraduate degree in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from SUNY New Paltz.
